Weizhe Weng is an environmental and natural resource economist whose research focuses on applying innovative economic and interdisciplinary approaches to quantify interactions between human and natural systems, evaluate policy outcomes, and support science-based decision-making. Her work employs modern empirical methods, optimization techniques, and integrated assessment models to examine policy issues related to water and air pollution, land use, agricultural production, and outdoor recreation.
Her current research primarily centers on water issues, with a focus on valuing changes in water quality, assessing the costs and benefits of water policies, and more broadly, modeling human–freshwater interactions. Her research program has received over $10 million in funding from agencies including the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Academy of Sciences, and the NOAA Sea Grant program.
