Help Fund the BAFF this Giving Tuesday

Across Canada and around the world, Giving Tuesday unites communities by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another by encouraging the collection of donations for various causes to address local and global challenges.

Did you know groundwater represents 99% of all available liquid fresh water on the planet and more than 50% of the world’s population depends on groundwater as their primary source of drinking water? Help support this essential resource that sustains ecosystems and human health by donating to the G360 Institute for Groundwater Research to promote the completion of the Bedrock Aquifer Field Facility (BAFF) on the University of Guelph campus.

The BAFF is designed to be a focal point for hands‐on training, vital groundwater research, and technology development. It will act as a hub for community engagement, supporting demonstrations for students, professionals, and community outreach. Additionally, this facility will support leading edge field-based research and education on groundwater and subsurface science and engineering. You can make personal contributions directly via the University of Guelph website below.

Now Hiring – Research Assistant II (Digital Coordinator)

The G360 Institute is currently searching for a Research Assistant II (Digital Coordinator).

The Groundwater Project (‘GW-Project’), is a non-profit organization based within and administratively supported by the G360 Institute for Groundwater Research at the University of Guelph. The GW-Project, registered in Canada, is committed to providing accessible, engaging, high-quality, educational materials, free-of-charge online in many languages, to all who want to learn about groundwater, and how groundwater relates to and sustains ecological systems and humanity. The project is managed by an 11-member international Steering Committee and one Project Coordinator. The GW-Project operates through their website http://gw-project.org/, and anyone registered, at no cost, at this website may download all our groundwater publications and related materials.

Reporting to the Groundwater Project’s Project Coordinator, you will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Assisting authors with figure preparation to synthesize complex scientific principles into easy to understand graphics
  • Investigating existing online learning platforms such as the Khan academy to develop a comprehensive strategy for the preparation of online videos and learning modules centered around the books published on the Groundwater Project website.
  • Preparing videos that support the Groundwater Project’s goal of producing engaging, high quality learning modules that present the state of the science.
  • Researching and developing an effective marketing strategy for crowd funding applications such as Kick Starter and Go Fund Me.
  • Producing videos that are of high quality to support crowd funding campaigns including corporate interviews.
  • Producing animations to explain complex scientific principles
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Powerpoint and Video Editing Software is considered an asset.

The American Academy of Environmental Engineers & Scientists Recognizes Dr. Beth Parker as a Board Certified Environmental Engineering Member

The American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists® (AAEES) is a not-for-profit organization serving the Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science professions by providing Board Certification to those who qualify through experience and testing. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Beth Parker has been certified by Eminence as a Board Certified Environmental Engineering Member (BCEEM) in the category of of Hazardous Waste Management and Site Remediation as of April 2020. The BCEEM title is internationally recognized as a premium credential that is awarded to experienced professionals who have demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of specialization.

The Academy also provides training through workshops and seminars, participates in accrediting universities, publishes a periodical and other reference material, interacts with students and young professionals, sponsors a university lecture series, and rewards outstanding achievements through its international awards program. Dr. Beth Parker Awarded the Tage Erlander Professorship for 2021

Congratulations to Dr. Beth Parker who was awarded the Tage Erlander Professorship by the Swedish Research Council for an 8 month visiting professorship at Lund University for 2021. This professorship was created in 1981 to mark the eightieth birthday of the late Mr. Tage Erlander, who was the Swedish Minister of Education 1945-1946 and then Prime Minister until 1969. Appointments are by invitation only and scientists of the highest distinction are invited. The professorship is meant to contribute to the Swedish researcher society with the personal influence of an excellent scientist and to the building of lasting scientific networks.
